Buffalo Bill Presentation

The first 300 Buffalo Bill Commemoratives were made as presentation guns. These guns are basically the same as the regular rifle, except they have deluxe, hand checkered wood and the hammer, trigger, loading gate, forearm tip, saddle ring, and buttplate are gold plated. Also, there is no medallion in the stock. The Buffalo Bill presentation comes in a solid mahogany case lined with velvet. A gold plated commemorative medallion is encased separately in the case. A bronze identification plaque carries the occasion of acquisition and the serial number.

The serial number, with the prefix WFC, is located on the front underside of the receiver. 300 were made at New Haven.

Buffalo Bill Carbine

The compliment paid Winchester by Colonel Cody was returned in 1968 by the Buffalo Bill Commemorative Rifle and Carbine that bear his name.

The Buffalo Bill Commemorative is the only firearm authorized by the Buffalo Bill Memorial Association. The guns feature a straight grip stock and forearm of American walnut. The crescent shaped buttplate and forearm cap are nickel plated.

The steel octagon barrel carries the silver color inscription Buffalo Bill Commemorative in script. The sights are bead-post front and semi-buckhorn rear.

The black chrome receiver is roll engraved on the left side with the name Buffalo Bill in old-fashioned script flanked by scroll work. The saddle ring is nickel plated. The famous TE brand of Col. Codys Ranch and elaborate scroll work embellish the right side of the receiver. The upper tang is engraved with a facsimile of Col. Codys signature, W. F. Cody Chief of Scouts, in silver finish. The hammer, trigger and loading gate are nickel plated.

A silver plated medallion depicting a bust of Col. Cody with the legend Colonel William F. Buffalo Bill Cody 1864-1917. The medallion is embedded in the buttstock.

The serial number, with the prefix WC, is located on the front underside of the receiver. 112,923 were produced at New Haven.
